Hello i have this hand made beaded necklace/belt type thing. I dont really know much about it.
My neighbor handed it down to me years back before she moved away. I dont remember what she said exactly i was young and didnt really care but something like her grandmother made it when she was a child or gave it to her when she was a child i dont really know and im just wondering if anyone has a clue what this is exactly and if it would be worth anything.

How long is it ?? Can you take a good pic of the chain part ?? Not Native American from the design !! Possibly Turkish or that area ?? I have seen the same design on rugs !!
-
I agree Mart. It reminds me of a Kazak rug that I had once.

Check if the beads are glass or plastic. Glass will feel cool to the touch.
-
Heres a couple more close ups. the belt is 26" and with the chain link thing comes out to 30".
The beads are also made of glass.

anyone?

That takes me back to the late 60's early 70's. Beaded hippie belts were a little later hitting the Canadian East Coast. ;) They also came out with kits for those who wanted to craft their own.

Something tells me the hippie belts would not have been this finely crafted !! This appears to have been done on a loom !!

Any idea what it could be worth?
What kind of place should i look up to take a look at it.
Would any antique store work?

I have stored away somewhere an item similar. I know that mine is from the Flapper era and was a headband and belonged to a family member! I know they also made belts to coordinate!
Here's an example:
