I found this this with a churn lid. I'm not sure what it is.

If you like mashed potatos you would know what it was used for. ;)

I knew it was some kind of kitchen tool. No wonder they got sick back then. The wood had to absorb all kinds of germs.

I saw a whole collection of those for sale last week. They called them muddlers. They were used for mashing anything from nuts to fruit. I have one and I use it for pounding meat flat like chicken cutlets. I wrap the meat in plastic first.

Good idea! Plastic good idea too, lol.

Being a semi-retired professional chef....what works better and less waste - put your meat under a thin plastic cutting mat or silcone mat to pound. Less chance of getting little pieces of plastic wrap in the meat!
-
Thanks I'll have to try that.

I found a little cast iron fry pan works well too. I only use the plastic wrap because its there. I hate plastic wrap. It has not changed since the 50s. It still like to stick to itself more than anything.

;D you take out the wrap and scrunches together. I've use all sorts of items to pound things, lol
