I found this this with a churn lid. I'm not sure what it is.

I knew it was some kind of kitchen tool. No wonder they got sick back then. The wood had to absorb all kinds of germs.

I saw a whole collection of those for sale last week. They called them muddlers. They were used for mashing anything from nuts to fruit. I have one and I use it for pounding meat flat like chicken cutlets. I wrap the meat in plastic first.

Being a semi-retired professional chef....what works better and less waste - put your meat under a thin plastic cutting mat or silcone mat to pound.  Less chance of getting little pieces of plastic wrap in the meat!

I found a little cast iron fry pan works well too. I only use the plastic wrap because its there. I hate plastic wrap. It has not changed since the 50s. It still like to stick to itself more than anything.

 ;D you take out the wrap and scrunches together. I've use all sorts of items to pound things, lol
