Title: Does anyone know what this mark is on this gold colored metal bowl?

Hi,
I am checking on this for a friend.  Can anyone identify the mark.  The bowl is made of some sort of brass or other metal.  It is about 3" deep and about 6" across the top.

If the mark is on the inside, its probably a design element !! If on the bottom could be a makers mark or symbol or could just say where it is made !!  Where did the bowl come from and is there any history with it ??

The mark is on the bottom of the bowl.  I don't know any history on it though.

To me it looks like a symbol rather than a mark !!  No language I am familiar with !! The bowl does not look old !!
