This object is my neighbor's who found it in an old barn...I don't think it is whole...I think it is only part of the tool, but I have no idea what it is. Hope someone can help. TIA.

That would be a "Hay Knife", used to cut a stack of loose hay into portions.

Ya'll did pretty dang good on this one Rauville! :)
Being a born/bred/living southerner with lotsa' relatives in OK area....I earn the right to kid about it.

Thats the first one I have ever seen and I have been in Texas all my life and had livestock most of it !! Never heard of a hay knife !!

So that is a Hay Knife? Is there more to go with it, or is that the whole thing there? The blade looks like half of a set of giant scissors to me, not to mention the slot in the one handle. Just wondering...I check out the link now...
Thanks for all your help! :D I really appreciate it.

Here's a little better history as to it's use.

There was another type that was in the form of a spade with sharpened sections on the cutting edge. You would start on top of the stack and use the knife like a garden spade.

Rauville, don't know why but the link won't work for me.
