Title: Help! I have no idea!
Post by: wiscjeeper on June 30, 2012, 02:06:32 PM
Found this in my grandma's basement.  She said it has been sitting there for probably 30 years if not more...and she got it from her grandparents.  It is very heavy..probably 5-6 lbs.   The center is definitely iron and then a weird would wrap around the middle.  Any ideas what it would be used for?  Thanks for any advice!

Like the other one that was posted this could be a multi purpose kitchen tool !!  For anything from pounding meat to tenderizing or pushing fruit through a seive for jam, apple butter ect !!  That would be my guess !!

These heavy ones were for pounding/grinding grains into flour!

Wouldn't put my life on it, but I believe it could be a woodcarvers mallet.

Seems too heavy to be a mallet.  Looks like an old grain grinder to me.  Very nice piece, I would bring it to a local expert.

I think its a bit heavy for a woodworkers mallet too !!  Grain maul would be more likely !!
