Title: Okay one more dresser
Post by: kidden6968 on July 18, 2012, 07:08:10 PM
I truly appreciate all the help that has been offered as I sort through a mountain of items I know nothing about.  I have decided this dresser is a must go and plan to list on Craigslist.  Other than that it is walnut and measures 37 1/2" wide, 33" high and 16" deep, I am not sure how old it might be or how to describe it - if there is a style.  I would think it is mid-century probably.  There is also a chip of veneer off the top and some scratches.  Not the best piece but appreciate the help all the same.  I was thinking of list at like $50?  Am I mistaken that the dovetails look hand carved?

ps.  not the best pics

Good heavy stuff isn`t it ??  Late 40`s or 50`s !! Perfect for a boys room !! I would ask $50. !!

$50.00 seems right. Late deco/moderne, 1950s.

I see what you mean about the dovetails. They look pretty irregular - and thus made by hand -  though to find hand-carved dovetails at that late date would be quite a surprise.

They are graduated dovetails so pretty common with some mfrs !! Bottom of drawers held the most weight and these didn`t loosen as much over time !!

Thanks for reminding me about that Mart.  We haven't seen any graduated ones on here for a couple of years!

Better mfrs tended to use this method so its probably a well made dresser !!

It seems really well made and sturdy.  I learn something on here everyday.  Should I stick with the $50 listing?

You could call it a vintage gentlemans dresser, and go for $75. Still got wiggle room !!
