I have a lot of glass I inherited. My mom has one green piece which I question is Dorfinger. I have many pieces. I'm curious about the one. I'll post it soon. I want to know the charcteristics of Dorfinger and how you would know?

These are the photos.

Thanks KC, I just got the Kovels newsletter and a piece sold at auction for a lot of money, so I'm curious.
-
I was just reading about Dorfinger glass and the funniest thing just happen. Several years ago my husband I went to "Antque Roadshow", and I brought this item because I didn't know what it was. Well I just found it under Dorfinger. http://www.cutglass.org/examples1/fig184.htm They explained what it was and said it was worth a hundred dollars. I wonder if they knew it was Dorfinger? Sorry about the back drop. ;D

This picture was blurry.
-
Nice!!! Interesting they didn't give you any more information!
-
Can you take a pic with a lighter background ??
-
That ruby glass you posted earlier looks like high end cut glass. Hopefully worth alot!
-
That cranberry cut-to-clear is nice !!!
-
I've been studying American Cut Glass, lol This is European cut glass. The color pieces anyway. I have posted these before, but we never discussed names. I thought one was German, but the other two I wasn't sure.
-
Gorgeous finial!!!!! They aren't that easy to find anymore!
-
Thank you, I got it many years ago in a lot of things. For years I didn't know what it was. To me it looked like a funny light bulb. ;D I've always found it interesting. I wonder if the glass was blown like that because there is no seam.
-
It would have been hand blown most likely !! Still can`t tell much about detail, can you leave it where it is and just hold a white piece of paper behind it and snap a pic ?? Being clear its hard to see without a contrasting background !!
-
I'll post them tonight after my son leaves. He's coming for dinner. ;D I posted this to the "ACGA". American Cut Glass Assoc. They've been very educational. They also liked it. They wanted to know if "Antique Roadshow" gave me an age. All I remember was they used the term antique. so I'm assuming it's at least 100 yrs. old.
-
The first picture is on the base. The second picture is laying down, and the thrid is upside down off the base.
-
Much better !! Looks like it was just a decorative finial !! Don`t see that it was ever attached to anything !!
-
There's a base that comes with it. It sits on top of wood I took it off. It was loose when I got it.
-
Yes, I saw that !!
http://www.dorflinger.org/legacy_dorflinger.html
This should help you a bit !! Why do you think this finial is Dorflinger when they did mostly cut glass ?? Or did I misread the post ??
-
You must not have looked at my shortcut. It's in the catologue. I wasn't looking for it I just happen to stumble upon it.
-
Does yours have the cuts on the bottom ?? Didn`t see on that page who made it !
-
That was a Dorfinger catalogue. What do you mean by cuts?
-
Your link says that the one that looked like yours had cuts at the bottom !! Are you sure it was their catalogue,, I could not find one that could be read online !! And looked everywhere and could not find another example of Dorflinger Finials !! The Dorflinger website gave a list of companies that bought blanks from Dorflinger to cut their own design !!
-
Go go to the home page. The American Cut Glass Assoc. seem to think it was right!
-
Look up examples.
