I ran across a box of these in an old barn and am trying to figure out what the heck they might be. At first I thought they might be old door knobs but they don't have the typical hardware- but they are about the right size. Then I thought some sort of finials...again I think I am on the wrong path.
Anyone have a guess? I'd love to know if they are worth anything- but first I guess I have to figure out what they are. They are heavy-- feel more like lead crystal than glass.

They are made so they can easily be inserted or removed but for what purpose I don't have a clue. Maybe as "guide" bearings.

Electrical insulators?

Electrical insulators?
I thought about that, but they would conduct electricity wouldn't they? There is metal going all the way through.

No idea as to what the original purpose was, but they would make neat door / drawer pulls in some applications wouldn't they?

Some form of resistor, perhaps.

I have been leaning towards something to do with electronis too, not sure why. These were in a box, wrapped carefully in tissue (no newspaper to at least tell me they are older than the paper lol- about 8-10 of them. There was also a bunch of welding, tools and old farm impliments, in there, don't know if that helps spark an idea for anyone..
There is an electronics supply place near my house. One of those old dusty places where HAM operators and tube radio.tv enthusiasts hang out. I am going to take it over there and see if they have any inkling... will report back!
