Title: Antique chair - unknown date, manufacturer or style?

Wondering what this lovely little chair *is*, exactly. There's a partial label underneath (in english) but it doesn't provide any leads.

Some aspects seem gothic, others english, and still others moorish or asian. With the small dimensions (19x19 footprint) it's too small for us to sit in, which led me to believe it was perhaps a compact campaign desk chair.

Guessing the finish is original and likely a darker hardwood like walnut or mahogany.

Any ideas? Thoughts on age or even the name of a style to begin tracking down a value? It's been in my family for generations, but I'm too big to fit in it and imagine I'll sell it soon.

A gorgeous Eastlake walnut chair, very stylish. Perhaps a bit earlier than usual - 1880s, 1890s. I'd guess that it's by a northeastern US maker because of the aplomb with which it's executed. But that's a guess.

Anyway, it's a beauty! Maybe worth $150-$200. It was probably part of a more extensive parlor set in the 19th century.

It shows some Eastlake influence but I don`t think its American,, I think its English !!

Actually, I thought of the Herter Brothers due to the slenderness of the legs and proportions of the design elements, although I would not attribute it to them.

Why do you think it's English?

It may also have come from a dining room set.

On a personal note, I would hate to see you sell this beauty after it's been in your family for so long. Perhaps there's just a corner in which you could place it?  It would make a nice conversation piece, if nothing else.

Look at the side styling ,, more typical of English than American makers !!  Since Eastlake furniture was designed and made according to what was published in a style book,, it came in so many versions that its almost impossible to say for sure !!

I'd say Eastlake with aesthetic elements, or perhaps Aesthetic with Eastlake elements! ;D  Both point to the 1880s.

Is the cushion attached/upholstered to the chair?
What does the label say?
