Does anyone has an idea what this was for? And from which time and where?
It looks like there is a glass or some pottery is missing.
Maybe for chocolates?

Good guess. I imagine that it had a glass liner, probably cobalt blue or deep red.
I'd say a candy dish, depending on the size. It looks to be art nouveau, ca. 1900.

I believe its a plated bon bon dish and should have a green glass liner if you look very close there should be a tiny mark for Wuttenburg (W.M.F) value £15-25 with liner £120 dating from 1900-15 regards Martin

Glass liners can be found on e-bay, just be very careful of your measurements!
