Title: Unidentified high back rocking chair

I have a rocking chair that was given to my great great grandma. I have not been able to find anything similar to it on the internet and can not find a makers mark. It has gold colored ( could be brass or bronze) medallions with a face on them on the top and bottom of the wooden slats that run up the back of the chair. I am very sure that the seat has been reapolstered along with an added cushion for the back of the chair. If anyone can give me anymore info like the maker, date, history, or value that would be great.

could be arts and crafts  many makers were active in the early 20th c  regards martin

It is in the Craftsman style of the mid 20`s or so !!  Furniture, is rarely marked with Mfrs name !! If it is marked it will be on the underside of the chair !! Your chair may have been made about the time that Empire revival was gaining speed, Thats the reason for the faces !!

 I agree. It looks like it is an Arts and Crafts style piece but does not have the structure of one of the well known makers like Stickley. Very interesting piece. I like it. Those escutcheons are unusual.

Alot of Stickley pieces were signed, but this is clearly not one of them.

Agreed that it's oak, arts and crafts, but the armrests as well as the stretcher in front read more as either folk or very late Eastlake, therefore I'd put the piece earlier, ca. 1910-15 or so. It's interesting alright. Never seen one like it.

The arms are the reason, as well as the faces, I thought going into Empire revival !! Not unusual to find bit and pieces of other styles incorpoated !!

Some creator took artistic liberties with this one!  Unique!
