Someone near me has this up for sale. I've only seen this picture, have no measurements. They thought it might have come off a piano/organ.......but I feel that's highly unlikely.
Appears to me to have Eastlake influence, possibly from a sideboard or bureau? Trying to figure out what may have been 'attached' to the front as it looks as though something was removed from the vertical protrusions.
Might me interesting done up with a mirror insert with some sort of shelf made for the bottom then hung in a hallway/entrance.

well, eastlake it is !! but from what ?? hard to say without better pics !! doesn`t feel like a sideboard or anything from a dining area,,, looks more like a eterge or secretary type piece !! i have also seen beds with a similar line but dont think thats it either !!
-
Do you think it could possibly have come from a hallway bench (or whatever you call it)? Can't think straight at this time of night.
Very tempted to go take a look at it.
-
No, I think organ would be correct, as would Eastlake as a style. 1890s. Looks like it could have fit on an Esty organ, perhaps.
-
Well I'd never even really considered that there would be an Eastlake style organ. Shows you can learn something new every day. Thanks for that nudge ghopper!! ;)

I just woke up at 4:00 got coffee and you guys had this one all figured out. It looks like it may have a place to hold music if that center panel opens up.
A little imagination and it could be a real eye catching conversation piece. Like you said Sapphire, a mirror might look good and maybe a couple of coat hooks

Beautiful Sapphire!!! something like this would be stunning!! This one is a headboard above a sink !! I love it!!

Love this site and this blog post New Takes On Old Doors: Salvaged Doors Repurposed

I've seen these pieces repurposed as desks. In fact, I suspect that the design for these organs was adapted from desks in the first place.
Great idea to repurpose this crest for hanging coats.

never would have thought an organ !!
-
ghopper....I M P R E S S I V E!!!!!!!
Totally forgot about organs. We rarely see anything about organs/pianos on here.
-
Thanks for the props, peeps! ;D
Seriously, it would be impossible to list all the things I've learned in the past few months, just from the people that responded to this thread, not to mention everyone else.
Glad to be of service.

I would have not thought of an organ either! Good call!
-
just goes to show that a bunch of heads are always better than one !!
-
I always had better luck selling the organ top, as opposed to a complete organ. Nobody had the room or wanted to struggle with a heavy old organ...but with a top, folks would scratch their head and imagine all kinds of uses for it.
-
Probably the top of an organ

Looks like a good place to mount a sm flatscreen .
I see quite a few turn-o-tha-century pump organs up in the Pac NW , some fully functional . Folks up here do re-purp them (or their parts) into liq. cabs , ent cntrs , bath/med cabs& such .
