Title: Cinnabar ???
Post by: greenacres on September 04, 2012, 07:25:55 PM
This ginger jar is about 55yrs old. It's made in Taiwan, lol ;D It was a gift to my grandmother. The sticker fell off and I threw it in the jar. It was bought in a fine retail store. I never knew much about it. Are there tests to check for cinnabar without damaging it?

Certainly looks like cinnebar carving.  Cinnebar is usually a deep red, but I think that it will fade with sunlight.  I am attaching a photo of a cinnebar box which has similar inset carving.

This piece is very special to me. I've always loved it. I'm what you call eclectic. If I like it,then it stays!

greenacres, you might have missed mart's post requesting pictures of the label and view from top open jar.

Please post those....thanks!

It is a gorgeous piece!  Not used to seeing this color scheme.  They are usually all over dark red in color.

Color scheme similar to yours
