Title: What is this tool??

I bought a shelving unit and this was in the drawer, What in the heck is it?
I thought maybe it cut the tree to get out syrup, but after checking the web I wasn't even close
it's a sturdy thingymabob  :)

I thought it might be to pick up a bail of hay. I could be wrong. That's a guess. Mart probably would know.

I think its for taking a sample, of what i,m unsure of...but from the looks of it..you would hold it in your hand form a fist around it with the point sticking out between your index and middle finger...and make a punching motion...

bulb planter !! stick it in the ground and turn it,, will make a round hole to plant the bulb in !! or can be used like cogar says !!  all purpose tool !!

Over here we call it a Dibble...its normally made of wood...approx 1ft long with different sizes for different plants

WOW!! Cool, never thought of that! it would be a good weeding tool small and easy to handle

I have a couple of dibblers...but that looks older.

thing i like about this one,,you can go straight in and turn for small bulbs,, or lean it a bit for bigger hole and bigger bulbs !!

Yes it is old, but I wouldn't know how old. At least pre-1950's I would think.

Producing that was labor intensive compared newer ones that are "stamped" out of sheet tin or thin steel.

    I've seen something close to that tool and I was told it was use to counter sink holes for screws. It might be the person just used it for that purpose .
