Looks like brass plating over silver and black paint. 6 1/2" by 11". Anyone recognize makers mark?

I doubt that its brass plate...more like the other way round...silver plate on brass with the tarnishing being the black....similar to EPNS....
-
I've found the maker, E. G. Webster and Son. Looked thru Google images with no luck but found similar items listed as Dutch revival from 1860 - 1928.

I did a scratch test on base and the side of one lid. :o Very easy to scratch and very shiny! Both look to be silver underneath! Just saw mart's reply and that is it except mine has windmill instead of a floral pattern! Mine has paint maybe to hide the fact that it is silver? Do you know the price it sold for?
-
It did not come with glass or opener but still worth the 20$ paid!!! Other Webster pieces have a number stamped under marks. This one is hand engraved with E601/2. Ideas?

Correction: The one on worthpoint is a match! Has this one been stripped or has mine been painted?

i think your needing glasses...the one in Marts/my pics has a windmill on it....same as yours......and what part of "it does,nt say how much it sold for"do you not get.... :D
-
Yes, I need glasses!!!! But did you not see my correction in the previous post? Now I am not sending that coconut! ;D
-
LOL !! now children !! That number would likely be the style number !! They do not make just one of an item !! could have been many made with minor variations between them !! The maker was not likely the retailer so had to have a way to tell each apart !! Each pattern would be numbered !!

I,m sick of coconuts....i have had too many.....i do however enjoy mangoes...or the odd guava..... :P
-
this inkstand is likely silver plate over copper !! may have been chemically antiqued but i doubt it !! no paint is on it !! thats just the way heavily patterned silverplate looks !! copper was a common base for plated items !! in the UK it is called Sheffield plate and some is marked that way !!
