Hello,
I have an original Heinrich Hoffmann Green Vaseline Glass Nude Bather Soap Dish.
It's an absolutely beautiful piece.
I'd be grateful if someone can tell me what the value of it would be please?
Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
It's the first one and has the butterfly stamp on it.
A true valuation rather than an eBay one would be appreciated.

No, you're very kind to have looked, thank you, but was wanting a true valuation :)

Its only worth what someones prepared to pay..and its not as if your one is unique...there,s lots of them about...and a starting price of $139..is only a starting price....it may climb if there are two interested bidders....or it may not sell, after all it is a buyers market...this seller has a similar one for sale...with a lower bid of $99 and only one bid...what you think its worth, and what potential buyers think is two different things....

here,s another piece by Hoffman...with the butterfly stamp...no bids...no offers...priced at $250,i shall watch it with interest...

What Bigwull says is true !! Book values do not reflect the current market !! Ebay is your best estimate to what someone is actually willing to pay !! You can put any price you want on an item,, but if no one is willing to pay it,,, then value goes downhill,,, fast !!
-
things have different values depending who has it and where as this site and Ebay prove an item costing £10 at a car boot / charity shop can be worth £100 in auction £200 in a shop and bring any random amount on Ebay even £1 ! however most items have an average retail price which can be estimated by seeing and handling lots of items If we had this item we would retail it around £65 - £100 however if a dealer came we might let it go for £60 to allow his margin however an insurance valuation may be nearer £300 due to the time effort locating such an item so how long is a piece of string ?
-
its difficult for some to understand the market and how it works,, or doesn`t work for that matter !! I would recommend that no one read price guides,,, just take the time and study the market for an item !!

Good advice.
Anyway, the items are cool!!

The biggest disappointments we see come across this site is people who are told for years from relatives that something is very valuable or have purchased something that they have heard is very valuable.
Most of the time it is...just not to the value that the bearer thinks. You have to also bear in mind that the cost of those items back when they were made/originally purchased...it cost alot (in relation to the economy, income) and items were viewed with more respect. The feeling of value and respect doesn't diminish over time on things that were worked hard for.
But a very clear reality is that not all items are valuable to everyone and to the market. However, considering that this item most likely cost around $18 tops when it was originally made....it has increased considerably if it sells for $90!
Now, as for Bigwull and a "real valuation". BIgwull is a rambunctious, knowledgeable, unpaid volunteer who gladly gives time and knowledge to help others learn about their items. He went above and beyond on this item as usual. AND as much as we might not like it, Ebay gives a general value (most of the time) that people are paying for items. If a store or auction is selling an item it will go for a little more but not a whole lot more! The occassional elusive item gets by for cheap, but if you look at the market as a whole...you get a "valuation".
If you are wanting a "true valuation" then you will need to take it to a professional for a HANDS ON evaluation of the item. It will cost $$. If you want an "insured value" you will have to do the same thing with a professional, HANDS ON, evaluation.

Your piece may not even be worth bigwulls findings or ebay results as much of Heinrich Hoffmann's pieces have been reproduced as copies of poor quality marked and sold as original pieces. Especially where you did not post clear good photos of your piece. Flooding of the market with new and poor quality copies also brings down market value of the original valuable pieces. Plus collectors are a fickle bunch and the slightest flea bite can bring value significantly down. Like KC said Many factors go into determining the value it can no longer be determined by a price guide. :)
