This wood handled “spoon” like thingy was purchased at a garage sale.
It is 6 inches in length and both edges of the “spoon” is ground sharp enough to cut with.
I am guessing it might be a kitchen utensil because it was purchased along with 2 other utensils that are pictured in the lower right corner of Post $5 in this “Heisey” post …. http://www.antique-shop.com/forums/index.php?topic=12009.0 (http://www.antique-shop.com/forums/index.php?topic=12009.0)
Does anyone know what it is called or was used for?

Cool little whatzit , cogar ...
Looks like a gouge to me (wood, clay&etc) , but just guessing here .
-
We had something similar growing up....used it for the same thing as wully!
However, I must note that my grandfather was a mason/woodworker and we used lots of his items for other things! Reminds me of the tool used to take the "seam" off of poured pieces.A sculpting tool.

Grapefruit spoons were not sharp on the edges all the way and were serrated if any. Otherwise you would GOUGE your mouth!!!! LOL

I think you,ve got the wrong end of the stick..KC...if this was for grapefruit...its for removing the flesh from the pith...not for sticking it in your gob.... ;D

I'm thinking more on the tool wise end of the spectrum.....repurp osed for kitchen use. In our house 'tools' often swapped out locations. The two reasons that lead me to that are 1) there is a similar but smaller tool for ceramic work and 2) there is exposed wood 'inside' that metal cap, next to the bowl of the 'spoon'. Just has more of a hand tool vibe for me.

Good one Wendy!
-
Wendy, I have to ask how you found it! Did you know what it was? That was really good! ;D
-
Thanks Wendy for verifying what I suspected earlier from my grandfather's (mason). I hadn't had a chance to look today. Appreciate it!!! I know it was my grandfathers' tool that my grandmother used it to clean seams on porcelain that she made and used it in the kitchen for taters as well! LOL Versatile.
Bigwull...On my other side of the family I come from a long line of citrus growers in the southern US. This wasn't a tool used for citrus in the normal/regular trade. :) Unless someone wanted to innovative like we did with taters!

I have seen this tool before My mother took pottery classes when I was very young so when she stopped her pottery work she had all the tools and we have well water that leaves a mineral deposit in your toilet, so Mom would get on the big yellow rubber gloves clean and sanitize the bowl and use this tool to go to work like a dentist removing tarter ;D Very Versatile little tool KC

Lol, Very crafty your mom.
