Title: Cast Iron Anchor something???

Hi everyone,
I have been so busy that I haven't been here in a few weeks.  Wow so much to catch up on.  I came across this cast iron anchor in a box.  It measures 7" long and 4 1/2" wide.  I originally thought it was just a wall decoration but as I look at it closer, yes there is a hole for mounting but it would not sit flush on a wall.  Then the top piece has me stumped so I believe this is a part of something else.    Would anyone have a clue?

Oh and not sure it shows in the pics, but the "ball cap" top of the anchor also would not sit flush - it is angled forward slightly.

Hi Sapphire - it weighs exactly 1/2 pound and it was in a box with a cast iron oil lamp holder - minus the mounting bracket - argghhh.  LOL

looks like part of a door knocker, may have attached at the top !! with metal plate at back !!

Ah hah you are right.  That's exactly what it looks like - the top piece sitting on a bracket that has a ball type thing on top.  Hmmm.  Thanks Mart!!

I would say that the "stocks" (cross bar on an anchor) probably were part of the attaching system to whatever this went on.

 At 1/2 pound I really don't think that is part of a "door knocker". 

Maybe a closure "latch" for a big door or chest, but not a door "half-pounder".  ;D

I learn something new every day....door knockers bought by the lb.....i don,t think so....next you,ll be telling me that my 3.5kg knocker is too heavy

Your 3.5kg knocker is probably designed differently, too. ;D

A Ball-pean hammer on a cord would suffice as a door knocker also, .... but it was not designed to be used as one.

So, I think because the top looks like a hat, its has me thinking that it may be a wall hanging hat rack..  :-\ Thats what I would use it for anyway!  ;D
