Title: Got this small box...ivory? bone?

Picked it up at a local yard sale.

Its 3 1/2" long 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" high.

I did the hot needle test on the raised panels...they didn't go in. Tried it three times.

So I'm thinking bone or ivory.

Any ideas?

Small trinket box...for small rings etc...most likely bone...circa late 1900 early 20th.....

Agree on the date, probably 1890 or so judging from the brass borders and legs. Also, is that rosewood on the interior?

Very nice box indeed. With a bit of cleaning you'll have a treasure in which to store your treasures.

if i,m not mistaken that looks like a copper insert....or at least around the flat rim...and perhaps leather inside...

Agree looks like bone!  VERY NICE!!!!!!!!  Especially with the leather.

Reminiscent of very late 1800 - early 1900.

That looks very much like bone to me. You have one grain that I can see. Ivory has a double criss-crossing grain. Hope you,ve gotten rid of your gin & raisins....i,do know...well i don,t really know but I have first hand experience with Avril who infrequently suffers from migraine....its probably living with me that brings it on....
