Title: Teapot
Post by: Wouwtert on September 19, 2012, 10:04:51 AM
Hi guys,

Back again, this time with a fairly old teapot I bought. I think it's silver plated, but don't have any idea what kind of value it might have. It has inscripted on the bottom;

Shaw & Fisher
45 Suffolkroad
Sheffield

And the numbers 9493, 2 and 94.

Can anyone tell me more about this piece?

This is most likely Pewter....or Britania metal...which is a Pewter alloy...see similar one on ebay...not much value...

having done a little more research...Britania metal..is silver plate over pewter....from the look of your pot...the plate has been rubbed off on the upper body...but the base has retained its polish...as this would have been the part least seen

Dang, Bigwull....beat me to it.  Most likely Pewter!

Shaw & Fisher specialized in Pewter and Britannia Silverplate.

History on Shaw & Fisher at this location:
http://www.silvercollection.it/electroplatesilverS.html#SHAW (http://www.silvercollection.it/electroplatesilverS.html#SHAW)

 Shaw & Fisher only used your marking from 1872 to 1894.

ANother Brittannia Metal/pewter teapot, same time frame with same top piece

They specialized in Brittannia Metal (pewter like alloy) and silver plate at this time.
