Title: antique coot rack.. history and value

i think this is an 1800's french wrought iron coat and umbrella rack ... any ideas?

Beautiful piece!! I would say You have a antique hall tree, umbrellas stand. French could not say. I think your "coot" rack is cast iron, not wrought iron. Without labeling of any sort, I can't say whether it's from France or not, but it very well may be. Where are you located?

I'd give it a date of 1860-70s. Are there any condition issues? These things can be worth some coin; I'd check the internet for comparables. $1-$2K.

It's a beauty! Nice find!

I am located close to dothan, al.. it has been in a house in a small town clos to here.  they said it was at that house for 100 yrs.. everything, including the mirror, is in good condition.. and all the pieces are there.. there is a stamp on the bottom of the umbrella pan.. but i can' t make it out..  all the hooks are there.. it looks like some of the nuts were replaced on the hooks

quintnkim, do you have a magnifying glass that might help with making out the stamp?  Try looking at it in daylight and at different angles.  If possible a picture of it too. ;)

Actually i,ve been watering it down a good bit....if i was to write the way i sae it you,d be scratching yer neeps, thinking what the hell is he talkin aboot....but now that you,ve got the gist of what i write....it makes it easier for me to understand what you write.... ;D

Just love it....but seeing as we were here first and the Newf,s second then its a sma wonder that they do speak like me,and me like them...then there,s whaur you sty...did i ever tell you that i,ve got a long lost relative that emigrated to Nova Scotia way back in the fifties....their name wis Donnachie...maybe you,ve heard of them....LOL!
