I'm thinking of bartering with this guy who has a signed 2010 Team of the century football. It has all living members of team of the century.
Before I make the trade, I was wondering the price of the football if you were to buy it. Thanks

what no pics ...we need pics...

He never supplied me with a picture. I'm going to ask him now.

Not a big football fan, Michael. Who were a few of the names on the Team of the Century?
-
it would also help if we knew what shape the ball was...spherical...o r one of those egg shaped things... ;D
-
I did a little bit of research and found out it is worth around 2k.
That's good for my first barter; don't you think?

A PlayStation 3 with loads of games including a bluetooth headset mic.

I would get it checked out if possible beforehand. $2K for a football is a lot. The condition of the signatures will matter, and if it has no paperwork authenticating it, then the prices drops considerably. There's a lot of factors with sports memorabilia that can make it tricky. And that $2K number...is that the asking price or the sold price?

I will get a picture late tonight. The 2k is the price I would have to pay if he were to sell it to me but, we are trading.

On the email, he said he has COA.

Ok. Just trying to make sure you don't trade a bunch of stuff for a low quality or possibly fake ball. But if the COA is legit, then you should be good.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me that. I do appreciate it that you're giving me the tips so I don't dig myself into a hole. I think it's legit.
Also, this guy lives down the coast from me and it's a few hours drive away. Is it possible to trade through the post?
-
It is possible, but you run a major risk that the other party changes their mind or "forgets" once your end of the deal is done. I've got a buyer from Craigslist right now that is mailing me the payment on some vintage flatware because we're about six hours apart. They don't know me from Adam. I'm honest and will of course mail them their package, but I'm a little surprised at how fine they were with sending me money and never at least speaking to me on the phone first. Not with something like CL with it's no accountability anyways.
-
you rarely see phone numbers listed on Ebay...yet people send their money willingly...to complete strangers....so its not a strange event....
-
But ebay has things like Buyer Protection in place. Classified ads do not.

Is that so!...not..if you don,t use paypal....no protection..whatsoe ver....you,re on your own....but millions of people do it every day....without knowing phone numbers,.....

I got an email back from the seller. This is one of the photos of the football. I asked if the signatures were faded and he replied saying that's how they came.

Tell me what you think.

Its a nice looking piece....but i.don,t think its worth 2k.....but then i don,t know too much about them egg shaped balls, that you call footballs......bigg est misnomer... if ever there was one,....if it was a proper football,...a round one....then it might be worth £ 200.....depending on who,s signatures are on it....but...if you,are only trading some of your goods,..ask yourself.."how much are my goods worth"....then offset their worth against the 2k that the guy says his balls worth...then ask yourself...why is he giving me an item thats worth 2k....for my goods that are worth less....because after all... 2nd hand PS2/3,s etc ...are worth very little.......
-
Michael, who's signatures are on it? Can't read the plaque.
-
Buyer beware! Signed football scams are more common than you think.
What person would have a 2k football and trade it for used games when they could sell it? Even if it is an authentic ball....who would do that versus selling it? Could be stolen as well.

The thing that's not setting right with me is the Coca Cola Zero. Obviously a promo deal....... definitely not a game ball or even remotely resembling one. The players all appear to be older (as in my age) and I have yet to come across any reference to another signed ball or even the mention of this 'elite' group getting together and signing anything. Doesn't appear to have any NFL/AFL affiliation other than a group of ex players. Hence the interest in exactly 'who' they are.
Too many red flags for me......but I'm overly cautious.

You are not being overly cautious with this one...you,re line of thought is the bang on....If today was Thanksgiving.....th is would be in the centre of the table.... ::)

Good chance that these balls were signed by each of the players. I believe that. But I highly doubt that they were all in the same room at once. Everytime I see one of these "rare" pieces this picture comes to mind...
