Hello again,
Just wanted to share this item with you. We actually found it in someone's trash pile (upstate new york alley hopping). It looked vintage and interesting so I brought it home.
It is fully functional - I love it and love that it was free.
I have figured out what it is but wondering if anyone might be able to identify the wood and maybe how old. Pretty new hardware so I am thinking maybe someone replaced the wingnuts etc. or it is maybe 70's or 80's. I know that these are made by the Amish as well but this doesn't scream Amish to me. No marks at all that I could find.
Pretty cool for an alley find ;D

Phillips head screws?? I get a pretty new feeling from this one !! But you can`t beat the price !!
-
Me too Mart - that's why I said hardware looked pretty new unless someone repaired this at some point. I don't think it is that old
Really just posted to share as I found it a really neat unusual item I had never seen ::) I was thinking maybe 70's but wondering what type of wood it might be.
Think we are keeping this one anyway ;)
-
Pine !! I think mid century !!
-
Thanks Mart - I will learn this wood eventually just like I hope to learn everything else 8)
-
Yep, pine fo shizzle!

I love these. . . step stool, chair, and ironing board! So great. Another favorite of mine is the Amish combination rocking horse, high chair, and small desk! All I need it a grandchild to buy one for!
-
very functional chair/ironing board....definitely pine......it never ceases to amaze me what other people dump....and also what,s considered as trash.....
-
Haha wullie!!!
My co-worker has one like the rocking horse, chair, desk you posted, in her office. Yes we allow babies to come to work - love my job. Anyway hers was made in Amish country. Love it!!

Betting 50's to 70's range on the wooden piece! Remember these well!
We have one like the rocking horse/chair/desk in the attic to pass on to grandchildren as well! From 1980's. However they have been around since the 50's.
They have made so many multifunctional pieces over the years. Too bad they don't make as many these days...and if they make them...make they well.
A classic is this high chair that lowers to a stroller

However, here is a modern one I really like....Couch/Bunk Bed combination....

Ooo. . . love the couch/bunk bed piece. My husband and I are expecting our first grandchild in April, so I guess we need to start thinking along those lines! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Love both of those pieces actually - creativity and efficiency at their best!!
-
But at what price....typical Scotsman,s line of thought.... ;)
-
I had a thing that looked like a Victorian desk but it had a fold up bed inside. I also have had console tables the stretched into dining tables and fold up book cases. That last one makes no sense to me but Larkin made them as giveaways.
-
KC love your photos! Wullie, ;D You always give me a good chuckle for the day.

Frogpatch, I love those beds. Much fancier than a typical Murphy bed the ones I have seen.
Went in an antique store last year and there was a Victorian one that looked like an ornate fireplace mantle - way before Murphy beds were around! I immediately went to the counter to ask how much it was...and it had just been sold for $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Brooklyn Museum

This one sold for $4200 - alot like the one I saw
AND.....they even made fold out Piano beds in the late 1800's for the parlors!

Definitely not a bed for the restless sleeper. Could play quite the tune while you snored. :D
Amazing what people came up with and the amount of artistry that went into something so utilitarian. Love them!
-
And here was me thinking, that penultimate pic.....was of a piano...that had been dropped from a great height...
-
Wow is pretty much all I can say :o
-
Amazing quarter sawn oak in that one photo! :o
