My wife found this at a thrift store. She thinks it is a French market basket. I am not sure. The dividers in it are confusing me. Any idea what it is designed for. It appears to be pretty old from the wear of the leather.
Thanks

It looks like the type of basket in which one would carry bottles - probably wine - at each end. It keeps the bottles from clanking around against each other and also balances the basket.
Just a thought. . .
-
That is a good guess. I thought also flowers so they would not fall over.
-
I can totally see it as a flower basket it as well. Did you check, will a wine bottle fit into the spaces at the end?
Either way, it is an adorable little basket.
-
What are the dimensions?
Bread baskets were also made this way.
-
Oooo. . . baguettes and wine! Now some cheese and we have a picnic!
-

WTF Bigwull? Pepsi and What?
I forgot the measurements. It is 18 inches long and around 9 inches wide. I just came back from the store and I brought back some Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I am glad I did not read this first or the Brie and Camembert would have been a budget breaker. Quail eggs, no, maybe some fresh oysters though.
The end compartment of the basket will hold three bottles and the center at least four. I do not think it could bear the weight. I think a mixture of food and wine and flowers would make for a pleasant afternoon in the park. Oh I forgot in New Jersey they will arrest you for alcohol in a public place. Maybe the backyard then.

I will assume that WTF...stands for ..What ...the .....flaming hell are you on bigwull....yes 50% fat Pepsi + 50%...cheap Red Plonk....around 11/13%...mix together..add a slice of lemon....pour into a pint glass,...half pint for the ladeees!....very tasty....knocks you on your arse...big style....think of it as a red Plonk punch....you should try it sometime.......but a word of warning..... stay within sight of the loo.....LOL!
-
I am enjoying a Vodka on the rocks right now with a splash of seltzer and a twist on lemon. Wine and Pepsi would keep me in the loo for sure, just thinking about it. How about Apple Wine and Beer? We used to call it sneaky Pete. Its a little bit better than anti-freeze.
