Title: Silver markings

Is there a better way to match silver stamps..... im just going thru lists? And why are there so many, my platter has 5 I think. Ill post pics when i can, and i have other pics to post to! ;)

There are reasons for each stamp.

THey are generally for:  metal content, Origin of piece (Country/township), Assay Office Marks, Makers mark, Date Marks (year made), Export marks, etc.....

If they are British hallmarks...then there is a simpler way to identify the mark....each assay office in the UK has a specific letter...match the letter to the assay office...then you,ll know when the piece was checked...see link
