Its Japanese alright. But you can read Chinese then that is what it said on the cover. In Japanese language a lot of the words are Chinese. Don't forget China was a major country in the Far East for hundred of years. You pick up a two hundred year coin in Vietnam, Japan, Korea and they all written in Chinese.
About 20% of Japanese lang use Chinese words but sometimes slightly different meaning but most time  the same.
