Can someone yell me what this is and how old
-
how big is it? heavy?
-
Ya it's kinda of heavy and the size of a hand
-
I'm curious , buddyjeff , (as to it's size) ... does it seem it has a 'footprint' the size of a horseshoe , or perhaps a sadiron ?
Looks like s/o has recently ground/filed off some metal ... it seems to be a paired/repaired item , most surely a tool ! ... also , are there any 'measuring-type' marks i/s the cool little (iron?) object ....
-
Am I seeing a hollow or recessed bottom?
-
I almost want to say its some kind of crucible

http://www.auctionwally.com/appraisals/whats-it-worth-appraisal-of-antique-carpenters-chest.html
The appraisal of this chest was $225.00, they give a quick price and a wholesale price. It's not the same look, but it will give you an idea.

Where did you get this ?? Found, bought ????
-
I found it buried in the ground and yes it's kind of looks like someone hit it with a hammer
-
its 6" tall and 3" wide and looks like a small horseshoe
-
also the bottom edge is sharp
-
Looks like a punch used by a shoemaker, for cutting out heel leathers for shoes. ???
-
I thought it was a crucible at first too, but your hand would be vulnerable when it was filled with molten metal. Very interesting!
-
that is exactly what it is just saw one on ebay thanks
