Title: Framed Japanese print
Post by: ewarnick on October 19, 2012, 08:06:03 PM: Picked this up today. I was hoping someone could help with more info on it. It looks like it is on some kind of paper, doesn't look like plain canvas or anything. The letter was in an envelope attached to the back. It is about 23" high and not quite 12" wide. Thanks for any help you can give.

If the paperwork is to be believed , and the artists' & printers' chops are authentic (not just printed) ... you've got a one-off 1980s print from Chin .

You do also have the sig. on the paperwork & the name of the printing company in Japan .

Sometimes you just have to put on your boots & go wading , esp for 'foreign' artists , esp in asian countries where many websites are 'in the local/national launguage' ... which don't work super-smooth for searching in english .

I don't recognize the chops , so I can't rustle up any more specific suggestions , but happy huntin' anyways , ewarnick .

The painting is not exactually interesting if l dare to say. This is possible one of the most uninteresting Chinese/ Japanese painting.

Post by: mart on October 25, 2012, 05:36:16 PM: Just now got to see the print !! It isn`t a painting as in what we would call a painting done with brushes !! If I am not mistaken its a print done with a leaf/leaves or plants where the paint is applied to the plant or leaves and then they are arranged and the paper is impressed onto the leaves !! Its an old art form but will have to look to remember what its called !! I think Quinborne was looking at it as a traditional painting which it isn`t !! I can see why some would find a plant uninteresting !! Need to have a green thumb I guess !! It does put this in a different perspective though !! Let me check a few things !!

Post by: mart on October 25, 2012, 07:06:07 PM: I am bushed tonight !! Will look more tomorrow !! There are two ways this is done !! One is the paint is applied to the plant and it is pressed,, the other is to layer the plant between papers and it is beaten with a hammer and leaves the impression !! The color of the plant determines the color of the print and no paint is used !!
