Title: Hand carved jewelry wood box. Homemade?
Post by: yellowrose84 on October 25, 2012, 08:12:12 PM
Hello everybody! I found this box at a local thrift store a couple blocks away from my house. This trinket/jewelry box looks handmade. I have searched and searched and cannot find any wood carved boxes that are this detailed. I think it is homemade because so far in my research it is one of a kind and I cannot see any markings of any kind on it to identify the artist.

Please let me know what you guys think!

I think you have hit the nail on the head, i,m a retired carpenter, and i am of the opinion that whoever built this, did so,as a hobby,it reminds me of the kind of thing that  is made in prison,Over here we call it jail work,or art,...that has been made for, a  wife/girlfriend/daughter,

I would agree that it's handmade, looks to be early 20th century, and quite accomplished. A very nice piece of folk art!
