Title: Johnson Bros. "Dorothy"
Post by: tzuchick on November 04, 2012, 02:30:23 PM
Hi All! Glad to have found this board! I have just received Johnson Bros. china, in the "Dorothy" pattern. I have approximately 50 luncheon plates (9"), 37 salad plates (7"), and 16 teacups. The plates are all in excellent condition. Was wondering if anyone knew anything about these pieces and how much they might be worth. I know they were most likely made in the late 1800s/early 1900s, but that is the most I can find. Replacements.com doesn't have a price for the luncheon plates. Thanks!! I saw that one on ebay, but it is slightly different. It is called "Flow Blue," and it seems the blue is much darker/brighter. I will try to take a pic of the marking!

There were several variations of Dorothy including the Flow Blue !! Yours appears to be the mid color blue !! I think there were several shades !! Is anything impressed on the back to indicate the one you have ?? A number maybe !!

Beautiful china! Lucky you! I love blue and white and was fortunate enough to be born into a family that has been collecting blue and white pieces since the 1870's. Try arranging them on a dark, bare wood table. Just use a table runner or nothing at all on the tabletop. Blue and white contrasts beautifully against dark wood and they look great in a dark wood cabinet also.

I buy them in bulk !! I have a bad habit of forgetting they are hanging from my T-shirt and breaking them !! But at a dollar a pair they can be replaced easily !! RX ones are a bit more difficult and expensive !! Just don`t try to walk with them on !!  You might try them for any close work like looking at the computer screen !! I started using them when I gave art lessons and one of the classes was on painting hummingbirds !! Needed something to do all those tiny feathers and such !!

There are random numbers on the bottoms of some of the plates. Does anyone know where I could possibly sell these? I certainly don't need all of them!

Replacements.com had a standing buy order listed !! If you could get a reasonable price,, that would be an outlet !! I would recommend keeping a couple of extra pieces of each one in case you break one !! You won`t find them easily and affordably otherwise !!

I'm sorry for sounding ignorant, but what is a "standing buy order?" Oh, I am definitely keeping some- they are too beautiful to let go of completely!

What it means is that they are looking to buy these pieces !!  Forget how it is exactly on the site but it is highlighted I think and says something like "Looking for" or "looking to buy" or something similar !!  I noticed it on your luncheon plates there !!  Use the link in this thread from earlier post !!
