Hi all,
Happy thanksgiving!
I'm new to the forum, but was searching the internet to see if I could find out
more about this old tool that I have. A tenant left it at one of my properties years
ago, and I haven't been able to find another picture online anywhere of one similar.
I call it a weed whip, but not sure if that's the appropriate name or not.
Regardless, it's one of those things that you swing from side to side in front
of you to cut down the weeds. The handle is worn and of course the blade is rusty.
Anyone have any ideas? name? history? age? what part of the country most commonly used?
And of course, what's it worth?
Thanks so much!
I've enjoyed what I've read so far on the forum - what a great resource and community
you are!

Here in the south they are called Yo Yo`s !! Almost everyone here probably has an old one in the garage,, including me !! Thank heavens they have weed eaters now !! Those are a lot of work !!
Welcome to the forum, and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well !!
-
Thanks for the info!
So ... if everyone has one, I'm presuming they're not worth much, huh?
Thanks again!
Make it Great

LOL !! Afraid not !! $10. on a good day !! Around here you would have to pay someone to take it !! Very common !!
-
Yepper Mart...we have two! LOL
-
Ha !! I am allergic to those things !! Way too much work !!
-
We use to always call them sling knifes. :) They will give you a work out, and you don't want to be standing near anyone using it. I have two hanging in the barn.
-
I honestly don`t know what the original name was !! They were called many different names by localities !! Yes,, you want to stay far away when in use !!
-
We called ours the weed whackers and would get wild with them so dad would finally get after us.
However, I believe they are called Double Edged, serrated weed cutters.
-
its proper name is a Double edged Hoe!!.....
-
Yeah, and I would be run clean out of Texas if I didn`t know the difference between a hoe and a yo-yo !!
How was the holiday Bigwull ??
-
Hi Mart, the holiday was great..weather was crap....but scenery was brilliant....lots of pics to upload..got some nice pics of a bunch of red hot Rams who were just raring to go....luckily for me...there were on the other side of the fence.... ;D ;D....as for knowing about yoyo,s...did you mean this kind.....yum yum ;D
-
No, but that will do !! LOL
-
Maybe your side of the pond they are called a hoe...but here they are not. Search it up big guy!

you were saying..... ;D ;D
-
LOL Thought you would get me on that didn`t you ?? The one you posted is a cultivator with a flexible hinge and is only 6 inches wide as opposed to the 14 to 16 inch blade on a yo-yo !! Yes I know they call it a hoe just because it technically does the same thing !! A hoe/cultivator cuts below the soil line,, a yo-yo cuts above it !!
-
Yeah....Double Yeah.....Take That Wullie! Ka Pow!
-
Lol, you guys are always good for a laugh! Happy Thanksgiving! Hope everyone had a good time.

I always cook enough for an army,, still having leftovers so it was a good one !! Hope yours was great as well GA !!
