Title: Fleetwood Hodckinsons bottle
Post by: ryanand0111 on November 26, 2012, 01:44:32 PM
Hi, I am new to this forum and know nothing about antiques but I am wondering if antone could help me? I was on a beach a few days ago and found a clear glass bottle washed up on the beach. It is a bit seaworn and is marked with Fleetwood on oneside and Hodckinsons (Not Hodgckinsons) on the other, along with a logo. It also has a black threaded cork. I couldnt find any info using google so I was wondering if anybody with knowledge of antiques could help me. I am really just curious as to where it came from. If you need any more information please let me know. Thanks

There seem to be something wrong with the website at the moment. When I try to post any pictures, it tells me that I have already posted the same thing.

Okay, I looked at it more closely and done a bit of googling. It isnt Hodckinsons, it is Hodgkinsons. The 'G' had been worn away to look like a 'C'. The logo is a H on top of a W as the company owner is W Hodgkinson. I cant see any bottles online that match this one though, although some are similar, apparently from the 18th century. Using this information, can anyone tell me any more?

Need a pic of the bottom of the bottle !!  Also I can see the seam but the pic cuts the top off,, Need a close up of both sides of the entire bottle !!  The seam and the bottom can usually tell you approx when made !! Hand blown,, it is not !! Possibly blown in mold !!  If so the seam will stop short of the top,, don`t think thats it either but need to look at it  !!  Cant tell without better pics !!

The pictures are the best I can do for the moment, they aren't very clear though. The seam does go all the way to the top. There was writing on the bottom of the bottle, but it has worn away.

It is very unusual that a bottle could survive for 100 years bobbing around in the ocean without striking something and breaking. I wonder if it was stored somewhere and washed in recently.

Like has already been said,, if seam extends all the way to top its a 20th century machine made bottle !!  Still haven`t found what was in it !!  That cork is not too common maybe we can add that to the search !!  Will look more !!

i will assume that this bottle is in the UK,..is the top made of porcelain with a thread, or of a black bakelite type material,..early lemonade/beer  bottles, circa 1800,s had a marble stopper, this one is a lot younger...
