Hi, I was just hoping someone could give me some information on this pot I have.
I got it from my grandmother recently, and I believe she bought it at an auction, but that's all I know.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks :)

Can you straighten that pic with the markings and lighten it a bit !! Need to see it upright,, like reading a book,,we can not read it like that !! Or I can`t !!
-
Yeah sorry about the last photo! I'm trying to get some decent pictures, but honestly it's even difficult to see in real life. It looks like a hand holding something. But I have tried researching that and can't find anything! I'll post some better pictures when I can! Thanks very much.

stretchy neck needed...just like yer stretchy kaks.... ;D ;D
-
if you can,t lighten it take a pencil rubbing of the hallmark...i see an A...at the start...but...then nowt...i can see the nummers...
-
Try waiting till tomorrow and take it outside in good light !! Sometimes overhead lights just make shadows worse !! And those marks are small anyway !!
Yeah Bigwull !!~ But my neck is much older,,stretch is about worn out !! LOL

Thanks guys, I will get you some better pictures! It's strange because I took the photo straight, and when I click on it it comes up on a separate page straight. But on here it is sideways!
-
Oh, and great idea about the pencil rubbings! I didn't think of that!
-
Just flip the pics in your photo program !! Also make sure the camera is not turned for the pics !!
-
Are these any better? I flipped them round and posted it, but for some stupid reason, it keeps coming up sideways! When I click on it for a larger picture on here though it turns around. So. Frustrating.

the AB...i can see but after that...nowt...these marks are silver date marks,A denotes 1773..and B 1774...but we need to know what the other symbols are before we can be sure...the stamp looks deep..take a look inside the bowl and see if the mark has been transferred through...or try a pencil rubbing

Thank you! I'm quite sure the next one is a 6 if that's helpful? Does anyone know what this might have been used for?
-
having looked at your pic again,i can see that its silver plate...and its corroded at the top...it may have been use as a plant pot...value...id, say...very little....
-
I can tell you your pot is a vase intended for flower arrangements !! Can tell that by the cover on the bottom !! That is put on so it will not scratch furniture !! What I can see is AB 8077 6 Will have to look around,, couldn`t see the other two !! I am pretty sure like Bigwull said, its silverplate !!
-
Cool. I'm not really looking for value :) I'm just interested in how old it is and it's function. I'm from Australia so we don't usually have too much old gear like this.

What I found was that your vase may have been made by Ahronsberg Bros, Birmingham !! They used two marks A and B in separate squares 1896 to around 1900 and after that A and Bs each in separate squares !! Your mark may have the small s and we just can`t see it !! They made holloware vases, flower pots and novelties !! Look at the top insignia and see if it looks like a scroll work AB or ABs !! I couldn`t make it out at all !!

yeah you and the US when you get down to the bare bones...are just novice countries in the grand scale of things..and your civilized history only goes back around 250 years....but..your still far better where you are than being where i am....that,s for sure.....
