I hope this one is easier to figure out than the mystery bottle I posted a few days ago! I'm pretty sure this is for food storage. Its 2' tall, 17" wide and 10.5" deep. The top is hinged with a compartment inside. The whole thing is aerated on the back and enamel painted. No markings anywhere. Thanks again!

I tend to agree with you. Maybe for keeping root vegetables in the cellar. The perforations would allow for air flow to prevent decay. Mart should know what it is. Lets see.
-
Yeah !! I have been staring at this trying to figure it out !! Its late 40`s or 50`s but I have never seen one like it !! Would be great for potatoes and onions with the aeration but what would one put in the top ?? Too small for much ?? Actually the look makes me think of a medical or dental office on a counter but what would need air ?? Have to think about this one !!
-
I had a 75 yr old guy tell me when I got he had never seen one before. He was the one that suggested it was for food and that maybe you put potatoes or onions in the top to keep them away from the rest of the food. I thought about a doctor's office too but like you I couldn't think why the air holes then.
-
I'm also confused on the bottom shelf on the door. It's so slim I don't know what food you could put in there.
-
Could you put bottles on the door shelves? Is there any wear pattern anywhere on the inside?
-
The bottom shelf is so slim you could only fit the skinniest of boxes on it if that
-
Could the narrow shelves hold eggs?
-
I think Mart got it right when she said doctor/dentist/drugist or lab cabinet.
-
Agree on the date and possible medical function.
-
Still don`t get the aeration but maybe towels, wraps, bandages, tape ???
-
Been thinking about this one !! What needs air,, surgical packs when they come out of autoclave !! Years ago my old family doctor took syringes, instruments and needles out of a container filled with alcohol for an injection ect !! Possibly the top two had glass liners for such !! Another possibility for this cabinet is a barber shop/salon but I really think its too small for that !!

How about for CLEAN cloth diapers?
-
Ha!!

How about for CLEAN cloth diapers?
Not near big enough for the one I had !!

I know where you,re coming from....Avril and I have 6 between us...5 for me and 1 for her....the youngest being 23 and the oldest 33....maybe i should have bought a television sooner..... ;D ;D ;D
-
LOL !! You got a point there Wullie !!
-
Okay...if it was for medical...why the closed front (without a lock) yet aerated back side?
This confounds me!
-
There are parts of the world whereby people are honest...and things don,t always have to be under lock and key...or bolted to the ground with anchors.... :D.....
-
Only controlled drugs need to be locked up ....... NOW DAYS.
The holes could be for ventilation ....... or for pressure "equilizing" when the door is opened/closed.

Packs, bandages ect would need no lock but would need to be enclosed to keep clean and organized !! Keep in mind I am thinking about small doctors offices of 40`s and 50`s !! Not the ones today !!
-
I agree on that....but can't understand all the aeration holes..... Probably over-thinking this one....but.....
You don't need aeration holes for bandages. Even if in the humid south.
I'm thinking it could be a take on a kitchen application......
