Is this a letter opener?? The curve of the blade is pretty wicked and then the holes in the blade make me wonder. The handle is like mosaic tile pieces set into a mortar. I can't read the name on the blade. I'm looking for ideas and you all have some good answers. Does it have any value and about how old. I found it in the same house in a desk. Thanks.

MADEINT***...is what i see..so could be Turkish...lookis like it is a letter opener...the little snag on the blade could be for cutting string....in this condition...curio value only....on this side...£5/10

Well, the first word is "Made" so I would guess its after 1950 or so !! So Don`t think any great value !! Few dollars maybe !! Not a high quality !! More than likely an import or souvenier !!

The family did have a daughter and her husband that lived in Iran in the 50s. Maybe it came from there.
-
it has the blade of a Scimitar....so it is most likely..from that region...as Scimitars...were Arabic...in origin....
-
here,s a simple one that,s on ebay...but the shape is the same....

The stones (not sure if all) are Persian turquoise.
