Title: Found vintage knife, need info
Post by: mede on December 01, 2012, 08:30:01 PM
 ???

Hello everyone :)

I happened to find this knife in my families old items.
No one seems to know exactly where it came from.
Can anyone share any information that they would know?
Can someone identify the language at the top?

I didn't know exactly where to put it, hope this is OK. Sorry about the pix as well, had to use phone and it sucks with pictures.

I was more-so looking for information on where it's from.  The language at the top is at least visible.
I was going through things at another location, so all I had was my phone.
I will get better pictures probably tomorrow when I'm back there.

The writing - Arabic, the building is a Mosque (probably made of brass), and the blue background appears to be Persian turquoise.  Regarding the latter (turquoise or not) clearer pics would be helpful.

Monitors, software, and, printers all vary, as of course as do cameras.  In this specific case I chose to print the photos which for one took out a great deal of the glare.  My husband recognized the writing immediately, identified the building as a mosque, and due to its likely origin, and yes I did indicate earlier that clearer photos would be helpful, his educated guess is that the background is likely Persian turquoise.  Granted he is not considered an "expert" per se however due to the clearer image that I was able to obtain and his knowledge base he was able to identify the various aspects of the piece.

Such a glare that I can`t even guess at it !!
