Ah ha!  A Hand Muff (an elegant hand warmer for women).  Haven't seen one for ages!  They were the "in" thing in the US  from 1800's up until the early 60's.  They were at this location until 1909 when they moved into their new location on Manhattan in the Gunther Building at The Gunther Building at 391[1] - 393 Fifth Avenue, between 36th Street and 37th Streets.

Here's one from C G Gunthers..

Some history on C G Gunther and location

Go through the old newspaper articles on this site, via the address you have on your tag, and your will note that they were at this location during the late 1800's.

I am sorry animal activists....but our family has passed down some beautiful furs from generation to generation...and I think they should be worn.  Those animals died years before these people were even alive...and most likely were used for food as well.

These are still highly prized by many!  Being inspected by a reputable furrier is a good thing for all furs over time.

That's how I got my furs KC passed down from generation to generation and living in Massachusetts I put them to good use every winter!! I would not go out and buy fur myself but would never part with these family treasures and I think they should be worn also!!

Oh! I don,t mind people wearing animal skins...we do it all the time...I for one ain,t giving up on my comfy leather boots....and rabbit fur lined gloves.....but!!...would those of you who have these Mink coats....I don,t mind Mink getting wiped off the face of the planet as they are vicious creatures who do more harm than good....back to what i was saying...just don,t wear your much loved furs...and get caught out in the backwoods during hunting season...you just never know.... ;D

I don`t understand animal activists anyway,, and believe me I am an animal lover,, but can you imagine the world if all animals were turned loose to reproduce unchecked ??  They think everyone should be vegetarian or vegan but if they got their way,, there would be no vegetables left !!  Believe me,, I know !! My six horses got into my garden one year !!  Looked like elephants stampeded through it !! And I can assure you they were not hungry !!  They have 30 acres of grass, we bale our own hay, and they are fed grain twice a day !!
