Hi everyone,
I recently got into collectables and digging around my very old apt building I found an old antique smelter. It was a mess so I cleaned off some of the grime and noticed the spoon still had melted metal in it. Anyone have any info on this item or where I could look to find its value?? Im not sure im gonna sell it but id like to at least know more about the item. Any ideas??

This is a J.S.Dunlap alchohol stove...patented in 1900..the melting pot above would probably have been used for melting..that stinky smelling glue that came from hoofs....but someone at some point..has used it to melt...low melting point metal...I use a similar one..see pic....to melt down all my broken dinky cars...and made them into fishing weights...

Wow 1900 ?? My building is 150 years old and the old horse barn is now apts so I guess this was used when there were horses on the property. Does it hold any value??
-
J.S Dunlap came from Chicago Illinois..although he patented his stove in 1900..it.does not mean that this stove was made then...its probably a bit later...id say nearer the 20,s/30,s

still that's mad old... I cant find any sites or info on this smelter..like a data sheet or something... plus I think ill sell it but for how much??

Scrape the metal in the spoon and see if its lead !! Lead is very soft !! I would use it for making lead weights too,,, my Dad had all the molds !!

Your "lead melting pot" was surely used by the maintence man of your apt building.

It should sell on the internet for $25-50, I'm guessing. The ladle and pot will help.

I agree with Wullie on this one, Speakeasy. We have worked hard on this forum to be FREE ADVICE/VALUES...with contributors all around the world. We often have lots of items that can be offensive because of the times they were created used (Slavery, holocaust) but we don't encourage offensive behavior.
The saying "One Man's trash is another man's treasure" is what this forum is all about, including "One Man's Treasure Could Still Remain a Treasure To Someone Else!"
If you think that your "finds" are for clowns...then I guess this site is full of Clowns because we delight in helping "people like yourself"...so welcome to our circus!!!
By-the-way...full-time employed clowns are a very select group. Did you know that and did you know that the average Full-Time Clown makes $38,000, according to Simply Hired, while State Universtiy reports average earnings of $51,000 a year! Who's laughing now?
