hi i really need help with this marks.
thanks.
-
This is a London Hallmark..the Lion...at the fore represents the purity...925...the uncrowned Leopard is the Mark of London The MR...stands for ..Manoah Rhodes..from 1915
-
Lion=silver purity mark
Uncrowned leopard head=London mark used from 1822 to present
Fancy S mark=Date mark...and if I am reading correctly this dates to 1933
Can you describe what is under the MR? MR is the makers mark...but the rest of it will help determine who that is.
-
well thank you guys for the help, but i not see any other mark.
even the seller does not know what the MR mark mean.
and yes the year is 1933
-
What is the item with the mark on it? That can help determine the maker MR.
-
oh ok here is the pic of the item :)
-
There are only 2 makers that carry the M.R ..makers mark...one that i,ve already mentioned...Manoah Rhodes...and the other is simply M.R....but this one i will discount...as the 1933 date is wrong for this maker...
-
well the seller says is 1933,so what would u think should be the date?
thanks.

You have misinterpreted,...what I wrote...i,m not questioning the 1933 date...this date is correct...providing the M.R...is as I think it is...Manoah Rhodes...but if its the other MR..then the date is wrong....as the other MR only dates from 1926/28....i have been searching again..and although these sticks have a London mark...The M.R...if they are Manoah,s..date to 31

If I have seen the M.R correctly on this piece, it isn't that of Manoah Rhodes & Sons. They don't have periods. Theirs is M R inside two conjoining circles. The other one MR over CR..haven't been able to find out when they stopped business...but they have 4 initials not two. There is an unidentified M.R that shows up on pieces but I cannot find out whot M.R is...the London Assay office would be the only one to truly identify this.
The date mark of the script S was similarly used in 1778...but would not go along with the uncrowned lion...so 1933 is correct.
Note: On this page which shows pieces with the London Assay mark and Makers Mark...it says there are two pieces that they have seen with the M.R mark and the stamp dates of 1926 and 1928...so it is highly plausible that this is the same maker. http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Makers/London-M.html (http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Makers/London-M.html)
Irregardless, the candlesticks are gorgeous. They are the the same style of that period by other silversmiths...such as these by M.S
Moses or Morris Salkind, Mulberry Street, London, London 1937 hallmark
