Title: Can you help me out with this box?
Post by: Simppen on December 29, 2012, 05:11:44 PM
Hi everybody!

I bought this filigree box a few years ago, and I have tried to find about more about it, without luck. So now it's your turn, folks! =D
There isn't any hallmarks on it, but I think it's silver due to the results of a simple test I did at home with a match... The thing that is the most puzzling is the text carved underneath it, I simply can't figure out which language it is, not even after all my extensive research.

I would be thrilled to find out more about this box, the origin, purpose, age and perhaps someone even will help me find out what is says on it! =) That's really what I'm most eager to find out. If I can find that out, the other pieces of the puzzle will probably fall into place as well. So, sink your teeth into this challenge! =)

Thanks in advance!

The top link is okay. I wonder if that would be "Celtic" knots on top of the box.

Well, Bigwull, I see I have really offended you? Wouldn't it have been nicer to simply in a polite manner point out that the pictures aren't good? I don't know how to 'insert image', that's why I gave you the CRAPPY link to the pictures I have on photobucket.

I know the second picture is very small, I have to get a better one of that top side, but the second picture is fine, right? At least when I click on the link it shows up just fine. And if you read my text you know that it's the carving underneath the box I'm most interested in finding out about. Thanks.

I don,t take offence...I say what I think...I never see the point of beating about the bush...say it as you see it..thats my motto... and if people don,t like it...then they can lump it....Don,t take it to heart....you,re not the first...and you certainly won,t be the last.....now if you can post better pics..i will try and help...

I think you might have a Bulgarian box! Compare to this image of the Bulgarian alphabet:

Although that second letter doesn't have anything similar the others look close

What's the difference between Bulgarian and Russian Cyrillic letters?  Looks Russian to me!

From first impression...looks like a trinket box that someone has put their name on it!

Old Bulgarian and Russian is similar..but modern is different...as to the name on the box....well.KC has hit it i think...it could say..."hands off its mine"...or buttons...
