Found this credence cupboard (?) or cocktail cabinet (?)for a good price.

It's made out of oak wood. The doors have walnut veneer on both sides, and the cupboard has brass fittings. The furniture exists out of 2 pieces: the actual cupboard can be detached from the base.
According to the seller the cupboard is probably made in England in the 30's. I'm curious if you all agree with this or have different ideas!

Is this the only pic you have !! Would help to see inside !! Just looking at this pic,, I would not disagree with that date,, but then I have very little to go by !! Pic doesn`t enlarge !!
-
what pic format are you using...i can,t get this pic to open up...i,d be very surprised if this is made of oak with walnut veneered doors, and without seeing pics of the inside, and of the 2 parts when seperated i,ll await for the responses of others

My first observation when I saw the initial photo was that it resembled an Asian style cabinet what some referred to as a middle cabinet.
Upon seeing the close up photos, the hardware is more elaborate than I expected....but the style of the actual cabinet reminds me of a linen press cabinet = similar to this http://www.suttonantieks.co.uk/antique-furniture/antique/19th-century-fruitwood-linen-press/ (http://www.suttonantieks.co.uk/antique-furniture/antique/19th-century-fruitwood-linen-press/)

I am wondering why they don`t match !! How well does the top fit in the base,, is there space at back ?? Thought I saw a dark line at the bottom of one pic !! The top looks like Deco style and oriental influence was popular then !! Then we have an oak base showing no oriental influence and William and Mary style pulls !! Even color doesn`t match !!
-
Just curious, why is that being called an "oak base"?
-
Don't know about the oak, but walnut + 1930 seems about right. Good comments about the Asian influence. :)
-
If you look close at the pic showing the pull on the bottom part,, it looks like oak graining to me !! Its really hard to see so I used magnifying glasses !! Would help to get a pic with more light to tell for sure !!
-
@mart
I'm pretty sure it's oak. The cupboard fits perfectly on the base, so I guess if one of either parts is not original, it was made later to fit the other part?
-
Not necessarily,, sometimes styles were mixed,, using what they had so to speak,, Just seems an odd combination !!

Maybe the carpenter was drunk ;)
Anyway, I´m happy to have bought this one for 125 euro in stead of getting one from IKEA :)
-
I think you did well !! Top part alone is worth that !! Now stock the bar and invite us over !!
-
Yeah, not a bad price, and it will outlast anything from IKEA.
