This is a jade pin about 1.5 inches across. The motif seems to be African. Where would I go to find more information about this? If anyone has suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Doesn`t look like jade to me !! How do you know ???

I was told that it was jade. I would appreciate knowing how to tell whether it is jade or something else. Maybe I did not capture the color well?

Something tells me it doesn`t make a difference if you captured it right or not,,, but lets wait and see what some of the other members have to say !! I don`t think its jade from what I see but get other opinions !!

Would it help if I posted a better picture?

You can try to get a better shot if you want !!

Two suggestions: Take a pic in good light without the flash and also take a picture of the back side.
Is it green or black? If black could be vulcanite.
What do you know about this piece? Background?
Reminds me of some we had posted over a year ago.

What you have is a beautifully done bakelite Pin Lady's face with metal earrings, necklace & hair! I would place a value of over $300.00 Use simichrome polish to test
Great piece!!

All I know about it is that it is my Mother's. She had it for at least 30 years but I don't know where she got it. The estate sale people said it was jade. It didn't sell for $75 so I kept it.

Simichrome test will tell you if it is bakelite , Is it heavy & cold?? Found your exact piece in Karima Parry's book Bakelite pins page 94

This one is similar, but with silver instead of gold.

If bakelite its probably worth more than a jade pin !! Jade of various grades has been imported here for years !! Many are not worth much !!

Nice blackamoor. Especially the ones made by Cartier are very valuable:
