I inherited what I think is a Victorian Renaissance bed. I have been looking all over the net and can't find anything like it. Can anyone give me anymore information on this. The closest thing I could find, the dealer was asking for $12,500. Mine is not as ornate as what theirs was. The arch top sets on the headboard making it around 6.5 to 7 feet tall. The side boards are not in as nice of shape as the rest but still very usable. At some point they were extended to accept a full size mattress.

Yes, renaissance revival ca. 1875. Do you have any photos of the arched crown piece sitting on the headboard?
Do you have a link to that $12K bed frame? I'd like to see what that looks like....
I'd say yours is worth between $500 - $1000, depending on where you are and the condition of the side rails. It's typical that the side rails would be the most worn portion of the bed frame.
These beds were typically made to be approximately full sized, so be sure to check and see if yours wasn't extended so that the inside rail dimensions are now queen sized. Queen mattresses are about 60 x 80 inches. If so, that could help the value a bit.

For that price i'd want Christy Turlington in it.

ghopper Thank you for the input. I will get pictures the top and side rails this weekend. I was using a full size mattress until I upgraded to a queen size. I woke up many mornings with my feet hanging off the end of the bed. But, thanks for the tip I will take some measurements this weekend. Here is the ebay link,

I brought this to Illinois from South Carolina about 7 or 8 years ago.
Thank you all for the help!

Thanks for the link.
Ah, now I get it. Antiquarian has top drawer stuff, and their prices reflect that. And then some!
Hd1, you've got a handsome bed frame there. Looking forward to more pictures!

The bed size is the real indicator of age - like they said beds were made full size back then with a little fudge room.
Also look for any alterations if you can comfortably accommodate a queen size box springs. You can cram a mattress in...but typically you have to have a full size box spring.
These aren't getting $12,000 in our area unless someone famous owned it/slept in it (and was possible still there LOL).
$1200 to $3500 if in excellent condition.

In those days they didn't use king size mattresses. ;D I have an old headboard that I use in a guest room for that reason.
-
Definitely. I have had to get custom made mattresses for 2 beds and having to alter a set of box springs myself (not paying the price for someone else to make one).

Ok everyone, I finally had a chance to get some more pics taken. I have uploaded these to the same photobucket link. I also too some measurements of everything. They are as follows.
Headboard overall width - 55-3/4", inside - 52-3/8", sideboard flange to inside of headboard - 1"
Height - 85" see pic
Footboard overall width - same as headboard, sideboard flange to inside of footboard - 2-3/4"
Height - 37" see pic
Sideboard overall length - 73-5/8"
So it looks like it will fit a mattress up to 52" x 72"
Thanks everyone for the input.

Thanks for the additional pictures. I still say you're in the $500-$1K range.
Very handsome! I'd say it would be worth getting a custom-made mattress for it, if it comes to that.
