With the 34.8" of snow fall they are predicting for my area I may be off the grid for a few days to a week. Hope all are safe & warm please stay off the roads!!During the blizzard of 78 many died in cars covered in snow!! Be safe
-
Good luck! Stay warm and stock up. Here in NJ at the coast we are expecting only rain followed by a few inches of snow. I hope you don't lose power. Do you have a wood stove or fireplace? Generator?
-
34+ inches? Holy *%)#)(#_#$_*(!!!
Stay warm. If your power stays up, keep us informed of your condition and stay safe!
-
Yup, that has the “makings” of another per say “perfect storm” ….. with the Arctic cold moving East out of the upper Midwest and the Low Pressure area (moisture) moving up out of the southwest …… all that is needed to “add insult to injury” is a High Pressure area to be “stalled” north to northeast of the Maine-Mass coast …….. and then “Katy bar the door”.
-
Hope it isn`t that much snow !! Just stay in and stay warm,,stay safe,, keep us updated when possible !! Do you have alternative heat/power just in case ??
-
Frogpatch hope NJ does only get rain and a few inches of snow your area has been through enough!! We will lose power just a matter of when, We do have a Generator and we have an outdoor wood burner so lots of shoveling to get to the split wood and load the stove but we will be very warm and we have a large library of movies :D !! Baking & cooking today so meals will be easy to heat and be yummy, We have a large home so I'm sure we will have guests that have no heat when we lose power! The hubby will be plowing and helping anyone that gets stuck, during the blizzard of 78 we were without power for 2 weeks!! ghopper I said the same thing "34+ inches? Holy *%)#)(#_#$_*(!!!" will stay online as long as I can :D Everyone else in the area check in too!!
-
Hope you don't send all of that our way. It's hitting us late tomorrow evening. Still cursing hubby for nixing a woodstove when we move here. LOTS of oil lamps, comforters and a big lumpy dog.......don't think the bird will cuddle up with us though. ::)
We'll have to compare 'after' pics ;)

Sapphire,, a little Texas tip !! Buy lots of toilet paper and alcohol !! And save a few one pound metal coffee cans !! Stuff a roll of the toilet paper in the coffee can,, pour alcohol in till all is absorbed and put lid on !! In an emergency you can take the lid off and light the top for hand warmer !! Burns pretty clean but enclosed spaces need to be ventilated and bottom of can doesn`t get hot ,, just the top ,, Put something over the top to extinguish, we used to cover the plastic lid with foil for that !! We used these hand warmers for deer hunting !!
-
Neat trick mart! I do have a portable butane stove with lots of cannisters on hand. It's great for heating up food quickly and adding warmth while playing candlelight chef. ;)
-
For those in areas that could be stranded in cars and snow,, this is a good item to have !! Just don`t pour the alcohol in till you need it in an emergency !! And always crack window a bit !! Would keep you from freezing to death !! Puts out enough heat to warm a car !! Old grill rack on stand above it would even heat food !!
-
Nice info Mart!!!!
Keep warm Wendy177!
-
Wow that is a lot of snow!!!! We have not had much here in Ohio this winter. I wish we could get a foot and then I would be ready for Spring. Stay safe! I hope you are able to stay warm, too.
-
Bundle up Wendy!
-
Yikes , Wendy !!!
A big ditto on the well-wishing to you & yours !
Maybe keep an eye on the snow build-up on the roof too ....
hoping all the warm wishes increase the BTU's @ your place .
Nice tip on the hobo-stove , mart !
-
I don't think a snow blower works with that amount of snow! Get some good hot chocolate and a good book and stay warm, Wendy. I actually like a good snow. Maybe a good sled or skis. Stay safe.
-
I just heard that we are in for 65 MPH winds and another tidal surge. Crap!
-
Take care up there Frogpatch !! And keep in touch !!

Field & Stream and Sports Afield use to have many handy tips like that !! Thats where I read about it !! I always wondered why people in areas where the possibility exists of getting stranded in cars didnt use something like this !! I think I would have a kit packed with a few items like that as well as food/water just in case !!
-
Careful of trees too! Candles, flashlights, batteries aah, yes extention cords if you have a generator. Charge your labtop and phone, you might not get reception. We just went through this with Sandy.
-
frogpatch hope all is well stay safe! Thanks all for the well wishes!! Fancypants my husband built the house and the roof is way overbuilt so we have no worries of snow causing a problem but many people will !! 10:14 pm here and I have a 2 foot drift against my back door and the wind is howling like crazy!! Everyone cleared off the roads early here so hopefully there will be no deaths due to people trapped in cars like the blizzard of 78 mart that tip may have saved lives then!! Gonna go settle down for a long winters nap ;) Hubby will be going out to plow at 2:00am will check in then if we have power.
-
The governor of Mass. said if your caught driving on the roads you can get a year in jail and massive fines.
-
wendy just 'cause you didn't really want it you didn't have to send it my way. :'(
It's hooking up with another front coming in from Ontario, meeting right over our heads and according to the cheery weather girl, creating the 'perfect storm'. Gonna make that perky pixie shovel my bloody driveway.......over and over and over. >:(
Stay warm and safe you guys 'down there'.
-
A tip o' the hat to your hubbie for thinkin' ahead on that roof , wendy177 !
Been watching that stuff heading your way as well , sapphire ... at least you've got your heater-dog ready !
-
OH sorry Sapphire don't you wanna make snowmen?? ;) Yup he did greenacers a year in jail and massive fines so many lives were lost in 78 they don't want that to happen again, Hubby plows so I love going out driving around in the storms ;D A few photos of the cars in our yard and when I opened my back door!! Think it is supposed to keep up the snow until midnight tonight. Stay safe all , any word form frogpatch??

I am actually jealous. I miss a good snow storm every now and then.
Mart, guess we already had ours! LOL We got 2 1/2 inches at Christmas...lasted almost a day before it melted. Here in Texas if we get a good storm we get ICE. A couple of years back we got 3 inches of ice and then over the next few days about 3 more inches of snow and ice. Slip n Slide. Those Texans thought they could walk/drive in that!
-
KC We got only snow with that one, no ice !! We were lucky,, I think you got rain that froze but we missed the rain and just got snow !! Took these pics on that one,,,!! House is stepsons that is behind ours,, just thought it was neat looking with his flag !! He was Marine helicopter pilot and retired Federal Agent,, now is head of the flight wing at the hospital here !! The other is one of the horse trailers and the road in front of our house !!
-
Love the pics Mart! Thanks for sharing!

I wish I could say that here... >:(
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
607 AM CST SAT FEB 9 2013
...HEAVY SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT
THROUGH MONDAY MORNING...
-
Well I got in from shoveling the drifts from the walk.....so dufus would have some place to do his business.......only to watch the lastest forecast. We've got about another 24 hours of this, giving us about a day and a half to clean up before the next one hits us on Tuesday. If I'd known that before I went out I would have invested that time more wisely.......like toilet training the dog. :P
Our south shore area is being hit hard. On top of the snow and wind they are suffering the from the worst of the storm surge. Some towns are flooded and part of their main (only) highway is under a meter of water.....and the end is still a ways off.
On the up side.....this is my one weekend a month off, so I don't have to go any further than my own yard. ;)
-
Looks like your prediction of three feet was right on the money Wendy. Makes my 6 inches seem like a flurry. We escaped the winds and tide too. I am glad you are OK. When I lived in Northern NJ we had 30 inches once. Fortunately I had a neighbor with a commercial snow blower. Nice pics Mart.
-
Our little 8 inches we had a few years ago sure doesn`t compare with Wendy`s !! Get out the ski`s and snow shoes !!
-
I have memories of a “perfect” snowstorm that occurred when I was 10 years old. And I will share this picture of it that was taken about 20 miles from where I lived at the time and which I uploaded from a “MyFamily-Braxton” web site.
I saved it because it was taken from in front of the house that was “next-door” to the left of the house that I currently own/live in. Thus the car ;D ;D in the center of the picture was parked on the street directly in front of my now current residence.

-
I will not complain about our 8 inches again !! Are you sure there is a car under that ??
-
Cogar, my only response to that sight was 'Holy s***!' :o
I'm fast coming to the conclusion that I want to move. Much as I love my Maritimes, I'm really too old for more of the s-word. Just did another stint outside clearing half of what the plow pushed in the driveway (ignoring what's in the rest). Round two coming soon.
-
Sometimes I think Santa Fe sounds nice ;D. I haven't heard a storm there in a long time, lol. We only got about 4 to 6 inches of snow, but still a pain in the you know what! My car doors were frozen shut as I was cursing and had to be somewhere. And I swear my car blocks my husband's so he doesn't get it as badly as I do, lol. Isn't everything his fault, lol?
-
Yesterday was short sleeve weather and today its 47 and I have been cold all day !! We are already getting garden ready to plant and grass is beginning to grow !! But in Texas sometimes Feb. And March are our surprise months !!
-
Down our south shore, where the storm surge is still affecting them...........
It's bad enough when your car gets buried in the snow, but add the invading ocean and it would likely be enough to make you walk away from it all :(
-
Oh, wow that's down right nasty!! :o
-
Not fun !! At least we can get a cardboard box and slide down the hill without drowning !!
-
Oh man! Just saw the newest updates. We still have another 10-12 hours to go here, but much longer for our north shore. You saw my pic from the south shore, the damage will be worse up north. The shore is already ice packed which means that when the surges hit there the ice will come inland as well. It's an area that suffers damage every year, but this could be devastating.
-
Saying a prayer for all of you !!
-
Friggin snow is still coming down but at least tapering off. I wish the winds would die down. Managed to unbury the three vehicles and they're out on the road. Plow coming for us sometime today as there's no way in you know what that I'm going to get that driveway shoveled, it's knee to waist deep except where I lined the vehicles up in the worst drifting section. We've been luckier than other parts of the province though so have to be thankful for that. Didn't even have to light a lamp..........and I'm still well stocked for the next one. ;)
-
You could start building igloos soon!
-
wendy and frogpatch.......... check in please!
-
Sapphire glad you are OK!! ;) We are all great here over 3 feet in my area we had the most snow total for the state wooohooo!! Hubby is not a happy guy blew reverse in his truck while plowing. Tomorrow they are saying more snow turning to all rain lets all see how that goes on top of what we have :P frogpatch how's it going?? Here's a photo of one of the local orchards not getting in there anytime soon :D

-
Wow !! They have to dig in,,,rather than dig out !!
-
Good lord wendy, at least we don't look like that here. Some got it that bad but I'll stick with my waist high stuff thank you very much!
-
Had pics on the news tonight of Boston area,, Looked like a very dry snow !! Can`t even make a snowball out of that !!
-
Then if it's windy blows all the loose snow. What a mess. We have more snow coming Wed., and I hope that's not hitting you first.
