Any ideas on the date or manufacturer of this desk?
I wasn't able to find any identifying markings on it, I got it from a guy on craigslist who said he got it from his father and that it is made of cherry wood, not much to go on.
It is a fairly small desk with a parquetry border along the top.

here is a picture of the underside
thanks for any help.

Nice desk but its from about late 50`s or 60`s from the way its made !! Unless marked its almost impossible to guess maker !!

I'd call it 1940s, but could be '50s. It looks more like mahogany than cherry to me. I'd say value is $150-$200. Nice piece!!

They made similar desks all during that period so could be a bit earlier !!

Thanks for the information. Now that you mention mahogany, I believe it was another desk that I looked at and didn't end up getting was the cherry one from the guy's father, and this was the one where the guy said if he didn't sell this and get it out of the garage, his wife was threatening to chop it up for firewood. Not the smartest thing to say 'before' negotiating on the price :P.
If I wanted to search closely for a makers mark, on what parts of the desk should I look?
Thanks

You could look under or on the back of the drawers, but it's very unlikely that you'll find anything. Labeled furniture is rare.
