new purchase, so pretty, can anyone tell me its maker? It looks brand new. any info appreciated
-
Wheel cut cake plate !! Wendy may recognize the pattern !! Starburst of some sort but there are a lot of similar patterns !! It was easy to cut for the retail market !!
-
thank you mart,
appreciated
-
I agree it's a starburst pattern for sure, but so far can't find name of the maker. It was a very popular design made by so many manufacturers.
-
thank you for your interest--not common any more I take it but I love glassware so to me its really pretty
-
This sort of fell down the list !! Why don`t you PM Wendy and ask her to take a look when she is online !! She would likely know the pattern !! Just keep bumping up !!
-
evening mart
there's so many things to look at on the forum-hard to keep up!
I'll ask wendi
-
I would say this is more of a fan & diamond pattern but by who will take lots of searching. Mart if you are saying starburst due to the center design many companies used this center "star" design for many different outer design and patterned pieces. You would go by the outer design to find the pattern :D
sugarcube try searching fan & diamond, diamond & fan, pineapple and fan , Straw and fan, straw diamond & fan to see if you can find a match to the pattern you may not find your platter but may find a match in a glass etc Good luck
-
LOL !! I said that because that was the only portion I recognized !! Why do you think I told her to ask you ?? I have no clue about glass so we go to you experts,, Wendy !! ;D
-
hello wendy,
there's a month of sundays searching I think....why don't they mark glassware other than little stickers that always come off in the wash.
also wendy, I wrote to you on the other forum, about the plate design--so cute--do you use that sticky tacky?
thanks for your info I'll start searching
-
you never know...you might be lucky..and it,ll be the first thing you find......but....th e law of average,s...says it,ll be the last one.....look forward to hearing from you in 8 months time :D :D :D

My opinion is, for what it's worth ... (both my opinion and the platter) ... not very much because that platter doesn't look like "cut" glass to me.
So, until you can provide more detailed pictures of the per say "cuts" then I believe one can call it "pressed cut" or "molded", or whatever, ..... but I'll just call it "Kroger Glass", ..... aka: Kroger Supermarket Glass which was offered as a sales "gimmic" to their customers for free or at a nominal charge.
Now whether Kroger distributed it or not, I do not know, .... that's just my designated "name" for that type of glassware.
-
now you have me wondering...took more pics
-
It appears to me to be wheel cut which was not uncommon for mid priced glassware !! But you are probably the best judge of if it is or not !! Cut glass will have crisp, sharp edges,,pressed or molded will have smooth rounded edges !! Your platter should have both rounded and smooth at the top and crisp/sharp around the pattern on bottom !!
-
ok then it is cut as it is crisp cuts not rounded--you had me wondering...
-
Cut glass is almost sharp enough to cut your finger !!

Cut glass is almost sharp enough to cut your finger !!
I,d never a thought it!!..... ;D
-
you don,t need cut glass...a blade of grass will also do the trick...

Sounds simple but many people still refer to EAPG as cut glass !!

Even at $5/hour for "wheel cutting" it would still be an expensive piece of glass.
WHAT IS NEAR-CUT, NU-CUT OR PRESS-CUT GLASS?
By: John Hogan
These are three interchangeable terminologies used to describe the intricate and elaborate designed PATTERN PRESSED GLASS that is either blown in a mold or pressed in a mold. ................... .....
............. like their expensive counterpart being that of the American Brilliant Cut. Pressed Glass, at the time, was produced for the masses by many American glass factories. Such patterns as this one was referred to by many glass companies as Near-Cut, Nu-Cut and Press-Cut. Such pieces were usually blown in a mold or pressed in a mold and polished at the bottom as is this bowl.

that sight was truly helpful-I believe I have pattern pressed glass in a mold as this has a "new" look to it...
has really nice cutting on it and the glass is bright
thank you for that
-
Thats why I said mid priced glassware,, Less expensive than cut glass and more that the common pressed glass !! Made for middle America !!
-
yes you did and I never doubted you. thanks mart for keeping the interest on it.
-
Its a nice cake plate !! Great find !!
