Title: Hand Carved Scottish Terriers
Post by: debodun on February 18, 2013, 06:22:17 AM
These were given to me my my great-uncle in 1970. A family legend, which unfortunately I cannot substantiate, is that they were carved by my great-uncle's brother who allegedly served under Theodore Roosevelt during the Spanish-American War (i.e. participated in the charge up San Juan Hill). The figures are about 3.5" tall at the ears, definitely wood. but stained black. and have small nails with rounded heads for their beady little eyes. Just sharing since there's no price on the sentimental value.

I think they are too small and light to make good bookends, but thanks for your input.

This scotties were common in the 20' and on. Usually they were jewelry. Try looking that up. I'll check too.

Yes they were bid from 20's up to 60's. But, the craze started in the 20's They did a lot of Bakelite and Celluloid.

Those breeds are to smart and hyper. The real little ones like rat terriers don't like children and will bite. Maybe your Aunt's dogs didn't like you?  :( Or more afraid ;D
