My friend and her husband purchased a home from an older couple and this large plaque is up on the front of the garage. My friend and her husband know nothing about it. He loves it, she thinks it's stupid. I had to take a photo of it because it was just completely bizarre and hilarious. It's a bull and a rooster smoking cigarettes. (Sorry it's blurry.) I have googled the heck out of this using different terms (rooster bull, cock and bull, smoking, smoking cigarettes, etc etc etc) and found nothing. Any ideas?

A right Cock & Bull story if i ever heard one....methinks there,s been a bit of chain tugging here...but....I wish it was above my door...."in a minature form mind you....would .nt want my new neighbours to think I was completely barking....or Mooing & clucking.... ;D ;D ;D..I,ve looked at this pic again....are you sure it was,nt you and your friend and her hubby...that were doing the smoking..of maybe an illegal substance....for if you look closely at your smoking bull..it looks more like its cracking a whip...or at least holding the end of a line that the pare burds balanced on... ;D

I'm thinking there might be a Cock n' Bull Pub someplace that's wondering where their sign went. 8)

Thanks for the great answers. :)
Internet searching showed nothing by that name in the area, but whose to say it's from that area. I should ask around.
I see what you mean about the whip, but they are absolutely smoking cigarettes. Not even cigars. Sorry the picture isn't real clear. They are cigarettes.... or maybe really long doobs? ;)

I'm betting it is.
-
Just curious but didn`t they ask the prior owners of the house where it came from ??
-
No they didn't. I don't remember the exact circumstances but I know that they left quite a few things behind.... some depression glass plates and vintage containers for things, and a bunch of other stuff. I sure as heck would've have left this sweet piece of decor behind. :)

Looks mid 20th century, from the Golden age of (cigarette) Smoking.
Well, as the cock and bull might say themselves, "What Were Once Vices are Now Habits."
-
What a wonderful sign! I bet you guys are right, that it's an older sign off a cock n' bull pub or inn of some sort. What a wonderful sign! Love it!

Betting this is from after the war. It was very common for cigarette/pipe/cigar companies to use animals to promote their products. Even was a company Bull Durham tobacco.
Very novel and would do well for tobacciana collectors!!!
-
Good thought, KC. Didn't know that about companies, thanks!

Doesn't look like a chicken to me.... more like a cockatoo or parrot
-
I agree with a cane in it's mouth. The picture is not great. That's the problem. It's not clear when you blow it up.

I took this last summer and it was a quick pic on my way out. Now that you mention it, maybe it is a cockatoo or parrot. For some reason I had a rooster in my head. I will see her tonight and will ask her. Now it's bugging me. :)

Ba Humbug!!....get yer magnifying gless oot and take a long hard look...that ain,t a cigarette....

Ok saw friend tonight. She says bull is smoking a cigar, and rooster (yes rooster) is smoking a cigarette that is in a cigarette holder, which is why it looks so long. I asked her if she is certain it is a rooster and she said yes, but that she will look again to make certain. She also said she will send me a new photo of it. After our conversation was finished we sat down on the couch and smoked some weed.

And everything in that last post was true except for the last sentence. Had to add it though since someone is so convinced that that's what we do. :-* We are mothers to many loud children, so for right now that is not in the cards..... but said loud children just might drive us to that down the road.
