If the size of the pic is too big it will not load !!  Take a pic of the front of the vase so we can see the pattern !!

No, satsuma is a region where the pottery is made !! They have been making pottery for many years !! Much of it is sold to other companies who do the decoration/painting !! I think its still being imported !! If I remember correctly its a tin glazed pottery much like majolica !!  This looks like maybe 1960 or after !!  If I had to put a value on this one,,around $20. !!  Prices are not too good for oriental style right now,, except for the very old ones and even they are down a bit !!

It's not Satsuma or repro. Just a vase in Oriental style.

How many toes on the dragons ?

Well repro gets mentioned an awful lot when it's not repro. Satsuma ware usually has the mon somewhere on the item - the cross within a circle.

Another term often used in Chinese or Japanese art is " Dog Of Fo " and there's no such thing.

Yep !!

Satsuma looks nothing like Majolica, other than some of the more modern items that have ' moriage ' decoration and aren't really Satsuma at all.

I have a smaller vase similar to the one on the right.

Record prices for Oriental items in the last couple of years.

Not the glaze either.

Unless you're talking about those crappy coffee sets that millions have and they're not Satsuma.

You,ll have to excuse him Mart...he,s English...and he probably does,nt read you like the rest of us can....mind you sometimes my reading is a bit askew...but...i always get there eventually...

Most here know what I mean when I say "similar to or looks like" !! I mean visually the polychrome enameling on Satsuma pottery has a thick glazed look similar to Majolica !!  Not in style or form or the clay or anything else !!  When I typed the original statement couldn`t remember "Polychrome" !!  I said "tin glazed much like majolica" which wasn`t correct but you get the same look anyway !!  Would have double checked and corrected that statement but had a burr under my saddle !!

You don,t have to explain yourself Mart...we know what you meant....them English...they,ve been uppity ever since they won the world cup way back in 66...and they sometime have delusions  of grandeur...but us up here in Scotland..know them for what they really are.....but as this is a G rated forum...i will refrain from saying..... ;D ;D ;D
