Yours is very unusual. I really can't find anything like it yet. Do you the mechanism is some kind of lighting device?

Interesting little item , Buddie11 .

Can't really see what the mech inside is/does .... any chance you could post a lighter pic (of that area) ?

Just wondering if this was perhaps a tinder-box (for 'camping') ...

Fancypants I think you may be right, tinder box, hence the magnifying glass to ignite from the sun.this is why I'm a member of this site.any idea of age and value? Value doesn't matter much, cause I'm a keeper,as long as it is worth 40 bucks what I paid

That is very nice! That is what my husband is always saying too, that is is a keeper/ collector and always hopes most of the items he gets is worth what he paid. In the beginning he over paid for a few things that he realized he could have got off line cheaper but in a way it was nice having it and seeing it in person before buying. I collect too but some things I sell here and there (especially if I see some more things I want to buy that are better to keep, ha ha). Anyway I really like. That case you posted! That kind of item is always intriguing to me when they have interesting marks/ design.

You can,t get a good meal for two over here for what you paid...you did ok.. with this...here,s a pic of my home made smoke tin...its a bit of Jail Art....matchsticks over a metal tin with 2 album covers drawn in felt pen...cost me a 1/2 oz of tobacco...way back in 72...

Mystery solved! Took it local antique shop and as soon as she opened it she said flashlight but had never seen anything like it (can't believe I didn't figure it out) strangest flashlight I've ever seen. Still curious if it is actually a cigarette case.

After finding out it was a flashlight and little research I did know it was a vest pocket light. I may have barely broke even on 40$ buy, although I haven't been able to find another one with a picture scene.

Everything I found said Cabinetta made cigars !! I didn`t find anything on cigarettes under that name !! Not to say there isn`t something somewhere,, I just didn`t find it !!
Neat case anyway !! I think it is well worth the price or a bit more !!

Mart,I did track down a flashlight collector,as we already know it is not a cigarette case. I sent him a very brief message,he said very nice European pocket light, rarely marked and not much U.S interest. I did message back with more details about the markings, still haven't heard back,oh on the first message I did not say it had marks. Maybe aftermarket engraving.

Therev was sure a lot online about the cigars !!  Could be they are still in business !! This could have been a promotional item but if so could raise the value a bit !!

Did find out what D.R.P stands for Deutsche Reichs Patent which tells me it's German, hence the fox hunt scene. Still haven't found what cabinetta means, can't see it having to do with cigars. Maybe small manufacture?
